Mississippian Archaeology Along the Etowah in Bartow County
Speaker: Dr. Terry Powis
This presentation will be an overview of archeological investigations in Bartow County over the past 15 years led by Dr. Terry Powis, Associate Professor of Anthropology at Kennesaw State University. He will highlight the research conducted by KSU’s Archaeology Field School at two Mississippian period (AD 1000-1400) sites (Cummings and Upper Dabbs) located within two miles of the Etowah Indian Mounds. Dr. Powis will focus on the socio-political, economic, and religious relationships between these three sites, especially during Etowah’s preeminence in the 13th and 14th centuries.
