Georgia Highlands College is now offering CNA Certificate courses thru the Continuing Education Department. These courses will be 102 hours in length and will be offered at the Heritage Hall Campus in downtown Rome. Upon completion of the course, students will qualify to sit for the CNA Certification exam. The cost of the exam is included in the Registration fee. This program is approved for WIOA funding for qualified students. Starting with the Fall 2016 nursing class, students applying for the nursing program will be required to provide documentation of CNA certification along with their nursing applications. If accepted, CNA is required to be completed by the start of fall semester. This course is designed to assist the beginning student with an interest in healthcare to attain the necessary skills to provide assistance to persons having healthcare issues to maintain their health at the highest possible level. The course follows the federally mandated guidelines set by the Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 for nursing assistants working in long-term care under direction of a Licensed Nurse to provide assistance with the activities of daily living. On satisfactory completion of the course the student will eligible to take the written/ oral and skills tests for certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Communication, ability to work as a team member and clinical competency are key components of the course. Supervised practice in campus and community facilities is used to develop basic nursing skills. Pre-nursing students are encouraged to begin their nursing careers at the beginning care giver level. Notes:

Registration Fee does not include textbooks, workbooks, scrubs, watch, background check/drug screen, or TB skin test/reading. Students need to purchase and wear scrubs and watch with a second hand. The first day you will just need the textbook (Nursing Assistant Today), completed background check/drug screen through Advantage Student, and negative TB skin test reading (available from most county health centers). Classroom days, October 29, 31 & Nov. 1, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15, ( 9 class/lab days. 8am to 4pm Nov. 19, 21 and 22 ( 3 clinical days , 8hrs/day). December 5, & 6 (2 practice days )
